More Oil Palm Farming Area in Offing
13/07/2013 (The New Indian Express) - The State Government has decided to undertake oil palm cultivation on 30,000 hectares of land by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan.
A decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Secretariat on Thursday. Official sources said decision has been taken to increase the area under oil palm cultivation because of its growing demand in the State. He said a farmer gets profit of ` three lakh from one hectare of oil palm cultivation.
Odisha has five palm oil processing units and will encourage more such units. Agriculture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and senior officials were present.
