Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

08/07/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 116,346 tonnes of cargo comprising 74,304 tonnes of import cargo and 42,042 tonnes of export cargo including 5,405 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 74,304 tonnes comprised 37,078 tonnes of containerised cargo; 26 tonnes of general cargo and 37,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 42,042 tonnes comprised 36,225 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,267 tonnes of general cargo and 1,550 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,405 containers comprising 2,537 containers import and 2,868 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 971 of 20's and 759 of 40's loaded while 48 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 929 of 20's and 527 of 40's loaded containers while 75 of 20's and 405 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There is one ship namely with containers sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are three vessels with one container ship and two oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths. There are three ships namely Hanjin Port Adelaide, Ebn Batuta and Al-Shroog with one container ship and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Saturday. There are three vessels viz Santa Rosa, Kota Gemar and Oriental Rose with two container ships and one ethanol tanker respectively due to arrive on Saturday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 46,451 tonnes comprising 16,575 tonnes of import cargo and 29,878 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,772 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 16,575 tonnes includes 3,690 tonnes of diesel oil; 6,000 tonnes of iron ore and 6,885 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 29,878 tonnes includes 7,056 tonnes of cement; 900 tonnes of VCM and 21,920 tonnes of containerised cargo.

There are two ships namely CV Kerstin and MT Al-Soor-II with containers and edible oil sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours, while two ships namely CV Alliance St Louis and MV Norgas Challenger with containers and chemical sailed out to sea on Saturday morning. A total number of ten vessels viz CV MSC Kerry, CV Alliance St Louis, CV Kerstin, MV Common Faith, MV Vindo Nissa, MT Al-Soor-II, MT Golden Ambrosia, MV Pearl Jabel Ali, MV Norgas Challenger and MV KPS-1 Alican Bey are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, diesel oil, palm oil, VCM iron ore and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely Stolt Zulu, MT Karachi, MT Quetta and Flora with furnace oil, palm oil and cement currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are two vessels with containers and palm oil respectively took berths at Qasim International Container Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday. There are three ships namely CV President Jakson, MT Stolt Zulu and MT Quetta with containers, palm oil and furnace oil respectively due to arrive on Saturday.
