Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

28/06/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 52,342 tonnes of cargo comprising 24,840 tonnes of import cargo and 27,502 tonnes of export cargo including 2,242 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 24,840 tonnes comprised 18,844 tonnes of containerised cargo; 362 tonnes of general cargo; 3,683 tonnes of soyabean meals and 1,951 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 27,502 tonnes comprised 8,180 tonnes of containerised cargo; 114 tonnes of general cargo and 19,208 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 2,242 containers comprising 1,515 containers import and 727 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 443 of 20's and 476 of 40's loaded while 26 of 20's and 47 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 276 of 20's and 78 of 40's loaded containers while 29 of 20's and 133 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are three ships namely Kota Gembira, Trans Spring and Izumo with one container ship, one DAP carrier and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There are five vessels viz Posen, Ever Result, SC Liaoning, Pacific Horizon-II and Klos-C with two container ships, two oil tankers and one bulk cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths. There are two ships namely SC Liaoning and CSC Brave with one oil tanker and one naphtha tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another ship namely Ever Result with one container ship is expected to sail on Friday.

There are four vessels viz Santa Rosa, Tabea, Iver Prosperity, Lodestar Genesis with three container ships and one chemical carrier respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while three vessels viz APL Chicago, Selin and Navios Vega with one container ship, one jet oil tanker and one talcum powder carrier respectively due to arrive on Friday.

Port Qasim

A cargo volume of 83,350 tonnes comprising 70,240 tonnes of import cargo and 13,110 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,522 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 70,240 tonnes includes 25,471 tonnes of furnace oil; 7,800 tonnes of palm oil; 15,160 tonnes of canola seeds; 3,630 tonnes of iron ore; 2,371 tonnes of chemical and 15,808 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 13,110 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 1,522 containers comprising 690 containers import and 832 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There are three ships namely CV CMA CGM Chopan, MV Out Rivaling-2 and MV Norgas Sonoma with containers, canola seeds and chemical sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely MV Peace Gem and MV Thresa Tourus with canola seeds, iron ore are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of six vessels viz CV CMA CGM Chopan, MV Out Rivaling-2, MV Norgas Sonoma, MV Peace Gem, MV Thresa Tourus and MT Lahore are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, canola seeds, iron ore, LPG, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as five ships namely Bux Contact, MSC Levina, Zea Hai-505, Alitis and Gas Serenity with containers, rice, soyabean and LPG respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are four vessels viz CV Bux Contact, Zea Hai-505, Alitis and MT Gas Serenity with containers and LPG respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Grain & Fertiliser Terminal (FAP) and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There are four ships namely MT Lahore, MT Al-Salam-II, MV Vindonissa and MY Alliance Louis with oil tankers, cement and project cargo respectively are due to arrive on Friday. There are three vessels viz CV Maersk Chicago, MT Stolt Zulu and MT Akaki with containers, palm oil and furnace oil respectively are also due to arrive as per arrival schedule.
