Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

13/06/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 37,563 tonnes of cargo comprising 5,322 tonnes of import cargo and 32,241 tonnes of export cargo during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 5,322 tonnes comprised 50 tonnes of containerised cargo; 84 tonnes of general cargo; 3,151 tonnes of DAP and 2,037 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 32,241 tonnes comprised 3,250 tonnes of containerised cargo; 238 tonnes of general cargo; 11,435 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,755 tonnes of cement; 3,676 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 5,004 tonnes of talcum powder and 17,318 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. There are five ships namely Kota Jelita, Asavari, Askara, Chemroad Vega and Tabernacle Prince with one container ship, three oil tankers and one cement carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There are four vessels viz UAFL Zanzibar, Asavari, Askara and Chemroad Vega with one container ship and three oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths. There is one ship namely Oriental Gold with one oil tanker sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while two ships namely Callao Bridge and Baltic K with one container ship and one talcum powder carrier respectively are expected to sail on Thursday. There are two vessels viz Wan Hai-605 and Callao Bridge with two container ships due to arrive on Wednesday, while six vessels viz APL Guangzhou, Naxi He, UASC Samarra, Kota Ganteng, Ebn Batuta and King Brave with four container ships, one crude oil tanker and one steel ship respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

Port Qasim

A cargo volume of 93,904 tonnes comprising 67,627 tonnes of import cargo and 26,277 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,322 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 67,627 tonnes includes 17,922 tonnes of palm oil; 8,112 tonnes of wheat; 4,752 tonnes of chemical and 36,841 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo includes 26,277 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,322 containers comprising 1,939 containers import and 1,383 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday. There is one ship namely MV STX Knight with chemicals sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while three more ships namely CV Sealand Michigan, CV Al-Sabahia and MT Donga Iris with containers and palm oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels viz CV Sealand Michigan, CV Al-Sabahia, MV STX Knight, MT Donga Iris, MT Dynamic Ocean, MT Theresa Galaxy and MT Donga Iris are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, chemicals, wheat and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely CMA CGM Rossini, Al-Soor-II and Sam Tiger with containers, diesel oil and cement are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are three vessels viz CV CMA CGM Rossini, MT Al-Soor-II and MV Sam Tiger with containers, diesel oil and cement are expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Multi Purpose Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There are three ships namely CV CMA CGM Amber, CV Michaelas and MT Quetta with containers and oil tanker due to arrive on Thursday.
