Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

12/06/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 58,008 tonnes of cargo comprising 6,212 tonnes of import cargo and 51,796 tonnes of export cargo including 1,085 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 6,212 tonnes comprised 2,529 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10 tonnes of general cargo and 3,673 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 51,796 tonnes comprised 20,371 tonnes of containerised cargo; 570 tonnes of general cargo; 17,065 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,464 tonnes of cement; 9,120 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 6,481 tonnes of talcum powder and 13,800 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 1,085 containers comprising 140 containers import and 945 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 140 of 20's and nil of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 645 of 20's and 120 of 40's loaded containers while 2 of 20's and 29 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are five ships namely MOL Dignity, Kota Gemar, Rio Charleston, lodestar Genesis and Ozay-6 with three container ships and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There are four vessels viz Kota Jelita, Delfa, Beacon SW and Oriental Gold with one container ship, two bulk cargo ships and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths. There are three ships namely Kota Jelita, Oriental Gold and Tabernacle Prince with one container ship, one oil tanker and one cement carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while another ship namely Chemroad Vega with one oil tanker is expected to sail on Wednesday. There is one vessel viz Alpine Aqualina with one mogas ship due to arrive on Tuesday, while five vessels viz Wan Hai-605, Callao Bridge, Kota Ganteng, Oriental Margerite and Lynx with three container ships, one ethanol tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

Port Qasim

A cargo volume of 127,923 tonnes comprising 75,939 tonnes of import cargo and 51,984 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 4,408 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 75,939 tonnes includes 36,096 tonnes of furnace oil; 6,875 tonnes of palm oil; 1,200 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 31,768 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 51,984 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 4,408 containers comprising 1,672 containers import and 2,736 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday. There are three ships namely CV MSC Clementina, MV Oceanic Coral and MT Lahore with containers, palm oil and furnace oil sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely CV Nysted Maersk with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of six vessels viz CV Nysted Maersk, CV Maersk Pittsburgh, CV MSC Clementina, MT Donga Iris, MT Oceanic Coral and MT Lahore are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as two ships namely Sealand Michigan and Theresa Galaxy with containers and palm oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There are four vessels viz CV Sealand Michigan, CV Al-Sabahia, MT STX Night and MT Theresa Galaxy with containers, chemicals and palm oil are expected to take berths at Qasim International Container Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Tuesday.

There is one ship namely MV Dynamic Ocean with furnace oil due to arrive on Tuesday, while another ship namely CV CMA CGM Rossini with containers is due to arrive on Wednesday. There are three vessels viz CV CMA CGM Amber, CV Michaelas and MT Al-Soor-II with containers and diesel oil respectively are also due to arrive as per arrival schedule.
