BURSA MALAYSIA: FBM KLCI Ends At Record High Of 1,787.90

14/05/2013 (Bernama) - The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) ended the day at a record high of 1,787.90, up 15.52 points or 0.876 per cent from Friday's close of 1,772.38.

The key index hovered between 1,775.34 and 1,789.62 throughout the trading day with gainers trashing losers 888 to 141 with 166 unchanged and 395 untraded including 22 which were suspended.

Supported by brisk participation, the local market moved within positive levels in contrast with other regional markets.

Volume increased to 2.86 billion shares, worth RM3.046 billion, from Friday's 2.54 billion shares worth RM2.86 billion.

Inter-Pacific Research Sdn Bhd Head of Research Pong Teng Siew said the market breadth continued to be positive with active participation by local and foreign investors.

"The uncertainty in the market has been removed after the 13th general election as the incumbent government won and we can expect counters to continue their gradual climb," he told Bernama.

Pong said shares would trend higher except for selected plantation counters as crude palm oil prices were still trading at lower levels.

Given the current bullish sentiment, the research house has set a new target of 1,925 points for the FBM KLCI.

On the scoreboard, the Finance Index jumped 211.84 points to 16,918.22, the Plantation Index perked 10.49 points to 8,335.99 and the Industrial Index gained 33.75 points to 2,988.85.

The FBM Emas Index surged 143.57 points to 12,356.28 and the FBMT100 advanced 128.37 points to 12,148.63.

The FBM Mid 70 Index soared 240.98 points to 14,066.94 while the FBM Ace Index gained 95.95 points to 4,448.22.

Among actives, MAS-OR rose 3.5 sen to 10 sen, Trinity added one sen to 5.5 sen, Cliq-Energy-Wa increased 6.5 sen to 40.5 sen while Sanichi Technology fell 1.5 sen to eight sen. Of heavyweights, Maybank added 14 sen to RM10.22, CIMB was up 17 sen at RM8.46, Petronas Gas jumped 58 sen to RM20.98 while Digi perked 11 sen to RM4.80.

Volume on the Main Market fell to 2.46 billion shares, worth RM2.98 billion, from 2.09 billion shares, worth RM2.79 billion, recorded on Friday.

Turnover on the ACE market, however, fell to 304.056 million units, valued at RM44.966 million, from Friday's 375.26 million shares worth RM47.97 million.

Warrants increased to 83.916 million units, worth RM10.608 million, from 57.33 million units, valued at RM7.25 million, previously.

Consumer products accounted for 132.182 million shares on the Main Market, industrial products 305.564 million, construction 170.382 million, trade and services 1.11 billion, technology 127.312 million, infrastructure 26.829 million, SPAC 85.56 million, finance 93.469 million, hotels 3.22 million, properties 367.380 million, plantations 26.439 million, mining 188,800, REITs 17.611 million and closed/fund 237,900.
