Internal Trade Dept: No Irregular Product Price Rise
08/05/2013 (National News Bureu of Thailand) - The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) confirms that product prices are still at normal levels and prepares to arrange a meeting on price interference on palm produce in a bid to tackle the price drop.
Speaking of the product price situation at present, DIT Director-General Wiboonlak Ruamrak pointed out that only chicken eggs had a tendency to be more expensive. She said the egg price had been gradually increasing by 10 satang per week in line with the market mechanism and the resolution of the Egg Board.
According to Ms Wiboonlak, the price of pork is likely to decrease by 2-3 baht a kilogram and some seasonal vegetables have started to become cheaper. Prices of construction materials have a tendency to remain stable but they might also be lowered.
On 9 May, the oil palm market subcommittee will meet to consider whether to interfere with the price of palm fruits for the second time. The director-general said the panel might approve the price interference by buying another 50,000 tons of raw palm oil on top of the 150,000 tons earlier approved by the Cabinet. 50,000 tons have been bought by the government so far this year.
