Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

13/04/2013 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 121,665 tonnes of cargo comprising 94,051 tonnes of import cargo and 27,614 tonnes of export cargo including 3,570 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 94,051 tonnes comprised 15,276 tonnes of containerised cargo; 30,900 tonnes of coal and 47,875 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 27,614 tonnes comprised 21,144 tonnes of containerised cargo; 834 tonnes of general cargo; 5,636 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,489 tonnes of cement and 4,147 tonnes of rice. As many as 3,570 containers comprising 1,451 containers import and 2,119 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 387 of 20's and 532 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 461 of 20's and 451 of 40's loaded containers while 16 of 20's and 370 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are four ships namely Northern Drelude, APL Brisbane, TS Qingdao and Vietnam Express with four container ships respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are three vessels viz Al-Salam-II, MT Quetta and APL Seattle with two oil tankers and one container ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are two ships namely MT Quetta and Pacific Ace with one oil tanker and one coal carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Friday. There are five vessels viz Kota Jelita, Santa Rosa, YM South, Al-Qadisia and Sofia with three container ships, one oil tanker and one coal carrier respectively due to arrive on Friday, while three vessels viz Venetiko, Maliakos and Oriental Nadeshiko with two container ships and one chemical carrier respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.

Port Qasim

A cargo volume of 84,635 tonnes comprising 55,122 tonnes of import cargo and 29,523 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,477 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 55,122 tonnes includes 18,459 tonnes of furnace oil; 11,034 tonnes of palm oil; 2,136 tonnes of crushed stone; 569 tonnes of sand and 22,914 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 29,523 tonnes includes 1,624 tonnes of cement; 2,819 tonnes of rice; 931 tonnes of crush stone and 24,149 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 2,477 containers comprising 1,206 containers import and 1,271 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. There are five ships namely CV APL Atlanta, MV Fhu Tai-19, MV Stadt Solingen, MT Bunga Allium and MT Lahore with containers, rice, cement, furnace oil and edible oil sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while two more ships namely CV Kerstina and MV Styliani-Z with containers and rice are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of nine vessels viz CV APL Atlanta, CV Kerstina, MV Styliani-Z, MV Fhu Tai-19, MV Faith, MV Stadt Solingen, MV Inlaco Brave, MT Lahore and MT Bunga Allium are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, rice, cement, sand crush, furnace oil and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as five ships namely Argent Eye Bright, Akakai, Reecon Emre, Norgas Creation and Dai Duong Sunrise with edible oil, furnace oil, wheat, chemical and rice are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are four vessels viz MT Akakai, Reecon Emre, Norgas Creation and Dai Duong Sunrise with furnace oil, wheat, chemical and rice are expected to take berths at FOTCO Oil Terminal, Grain & Fertiliser Terminal (FAP) and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Friday. There are two ships namely CV Lintau Arrow and CV MSC Levina with containers due to arrive on Friday, while two more ships namely MT Atlantic Glory and MT Amavist with oil tankers are due to arrive on Saturday.
