11/26/2004 INDIA BUSINESS INSIGHT - Oilseeds production in India hasstagnated at around 25 million tonnes per annum since the mid-1990s andproduction in 2003-2004 was 25.14 million tonnes.

Due to this stagnation, a substantial amount of the demand within India ofover 11 million tonnes is being met through imports.

Therefore, the Government of India is working on specific technologies fordifferent crops besides taking other initiatives for doubling the outputin the next few years.
