Brunei Keen To Invest In Indonesia's Agroindustry

VIENTIANE, Laos, Nov 30 Asia Pulse - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyonoheld bilateral talks with Sultan Hasanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam hereon Sunday, during which the latter pledged to increase his country'sinvestments in Indonesia's agroindustry.

"(The meeting) focused on how to increase Brunei's investments inIndonesia's agricultural sector," Minister/State Secretary Yusril IhzaMahendra said following the meeting.

He added, however, that the meeting did not discuss the value and type ofBrunei's planned investments in Indonesia.

"One thing is clear, there is commitment on the part of Brunei to increasecooperation not only in oil palm plantation but also in agroindustry andfishery sectors," he said.

Both Yudhoyono and Bolkiah were here to attend ASEAN Leaders Summit heldon Nov 29 and 30.

The talks also touched on an infrastructure summit to be held in January2005. "Brunei has expressed interest in participating in the summit,"Yusril said.

He said President Yudhoyono also expressed hope that Brunei would paygreat attention to Indonesian migrant workers employed in the tinyoil-rich country.

An estimated 33,000 Indonesians currently work in Brunei, accounting for10 per cent of the country's population.
