Activities At Karachi And Qasim Ports

18/12/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 70,075 tonnes of cargo comprising 59,313 tonnes of import cargo and 10,762 tonnes of export cargo including 1,490 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 59,313 tonnes comprised 8,315 tonnes of containerised cargo; 754 tonnes of general cargo; 18,420 tonnes of coal and 31,824 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 10,762 tonnes comprised 10,237 tonnes of containerised cargo; 325 tonnes of sugar and 200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 1,490 containers comprising 511 containers import and 979 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 333 of 20's and 89 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 337 of 20's and 132 of 40's loaded containers while 72 of 20's and 153 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are seven ships namely YM North, Cape Flores, Zante, Capriole, Golden Gion, Torm Louis and Georgia M with three container ship, three oil tankers and one bulk cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are four vessels viz Lodestar Genesis, Rabigh Sunshine, Densa Jeguar and Pacific Wind with two chemical carriers, one bulk cargo ship and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are three ships namely Rabigh Sunshine, MOL Direction and Hong Qing with one chemical carrier, one container ship and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while two ships namely Lodestar Genesis and SFL Hudson with one chemical carrier and one coal carrier respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday.

There are two vessels viz Tan Binh-22 and Heilan Aroma with one palm Kernel tanker and one steel ship respectively due to arrive on Monday, while eight vessels viz STX Patraikos, Hyundai Highness, Kota Gemar, Puma, Angel No 1, MT Quetta, Bhairavi and Aai Borg with four container ships, one caustic soda carrier, one crude oil tanker, one chemical carrier and one project cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 57,153 tonnes comprising 47,947 tonnes of import cargo and 9,206 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,045 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 47,947 tonnes includes 25,058 tonnes of furnace oil; 9,344 tonnes of chemicals and 13,545 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 9,206 tonnes includes 806 tonnes of wheat and 8,400 tonnes of containerised cargo. There are three ships namely CV Maersk Missouri, MV Chemroad Lily and MT Lahore with containers, chemicals and furnace oil sailed out to sea on Monday morning.

A total number of four vessels viz CV Maersk Missouri, MV Sai Eternity, MV Chemroad Lily and MT Lahore are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, chemicals and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as seven ships namely Kalamas, Overseas Leyte, Beautiful Rena, Meta, STX Hero, Princess-K and Sang Dong Hai Chang with furnace oil, rice, wheat, chemicals, cement and coal respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There are four vessels viz MT Overseas Leyte, STX Hero, Princess-K and Sang Dong Hai Chang with furnace oil, chemicals, cement and coal are expected to take berths at FOTCO Oil Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-2) and Iron Ore & Coal Berth (IOCB) respectively on Monday.
