Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

08/12/2012 (Business Recorder) -  The Karachi Port handled 96,733 tonnes of cargo comprising 71,516 tonnes of import cargo and 25,217 tonnes of export cargo including 5,705 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 71,516 tonnes comprised 34,716 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,558 tonnes of general cargo and 29,242 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 25,217 tonnes comprised 23,855 tonnes of containerised cargo; 573 tonnes of general cargo; 339 tonnes of bulk cargo and 450 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,705 containers comprising 2,952 containers import and 2,753 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 584 of 20's and 990 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 194 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 594 of 20's and 504 of 40's loaded containers while 63 of 20's and 544 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There are two ships namely Santa Refeala and APL Brisbane with two container ships respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are five vessels viz Thailand Express, Hammonia Ionium, APL Sharjah, Ikan Segal and Chaynee Naree with three container ships, one coal carrier and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

There are four ships namely Thailand Express, Stream Luna, Alpine Moment and Chaynee Naree with one container ship, two oil tankers and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely with one container ship is expected to sail on Saturday. There are two vessels viz OOCL Busan and MT Quetta with one container ship and one oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Friday, while three vessels viz Cosco Tianjin, Northern and Lantau Arrow with three container ships respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.

There are six ships namely Golden Gion, Bon Chem, Pacific Energy, West Scent, Warnow Mars and Maersk Illiunois with two ethanol tankers, one oil tanker, one container ship, one steel ship and one transformer respectively are due to arrive on Sunday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 53,643 tonnes comprising 34,997 tonnes of import cargo and 18,646 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,213 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 34,997 tonnes includes 13,981 tonnes of palm oil; 15,886 tonnes of iron ore and 5,130 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 18,646 tonnes includes 729 tonnes of wheat and 17,917 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 1,213 containers comprising 270 containers import and 943 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

A container ship namely CV Hansa Liberty sailed out to sea on Friday morning. A total number of four vessels viz CV Hansa Liberty, MV Sai Eternity, MV Beautyful Rena and MT Bunga Angelica are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, iron ore and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours. A container ship namely CV Lantau Arrow is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

There are three vessels viz CV Lantau Arrow, CV MSC Clementina and MT Al-Salam-II with containers and diesel oil are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Friday. There were two ships namely MV Stalt Pando and MT Karachi with phosphoric acid and furnace oil respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
