29/11/2012 (Bernama) - The Perak government targets a nett profit of more than RM100 million a year from the State Agriculture Development Corporation (SADC) by diversifying the state's agro-based industry.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir is confident the target can be met based on commendable performance and results for the past three years with profits of RM75 million recorded each year.

He said the agency was on the right track just like the Perak Water Board, which recorded revenue before tax of more than RM100 million each in 2010 and 2011, compared to only RM76 million in 2009.

"We are carrying out a big transformation process in the agriculture sector through Gagasan Perak Aman Jaya and we have started seeing the effectiveness with good results.

"If previously we focused on certain sectors such as rubber and oil palm, now we are diversifying our sources to farming, livestock breeding and fisheries on a large, viable scale," he told reporters after visiting the Perak Pavilion at the 2012 Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition, here, Wednesday.
