Ministry Concerned Over Oil Palm Fruits Thefts
27/11/2012 (Borneo Post) - The Ministry of Land Development is very concerned over reports of rampant theft of oil palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) throughout the state.
According to a source, the ministry would continue to work with the relevant authorities to weed out such criminal activities which had affected the oil palm industry in recent years.
“The latest case involving a prominent community leader in Sg Asap resettlement scheme whose lorry was seized due to his involvement in such shameful act has prompted our ministry to be more alert of the seriousness of the situation,” the source told The Borneo Post here yesterday.
The source added that the Minister of Land Development Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing would highlight the problem in his winding up speech at the DUN sitting here today.
However, it is unknown how much loss such activity had cost the oil palm industry in the state over the years.
