Ivomas Awarded Sustainable Certification
23/11/2012 (Jakarta Post) - Publicly listed agribusiness group, PT Salim Ivomas Pratama, announced on Thursday that its two estates and one palm oil mill in Riau province had been granted sustainable certification by the multi-stakeholder audit body, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO).
The certification covered 53,000 tons of crude palm oil (CPO) from the Kayangan and Kencana estates, and the Kayangan palm oil mill, which is located in Bagan Sinembah village, Rokan Hilir regency in Riau, the firm said in a statement.
Earlier, its subsidiary, PT PP London Sumatra Indonesia, was awarded sustainable certification for 195,000 tons of CPO in all its operations in North Sumatra and a portion of its operations in 2009 and 2011. With the new certification, its total sustainable palm oil now amounts to 248,000 tons, accounting for around 30 percent of its overall output last year.
President director Mark Wakeford said the certification marked another sustainability milestone reached by the group.
“The RSPO certification demonstrates that we are operating our plantations in a sustainable manner. We will continue our sustainability journey throughout the rest of our plantation operations and supply chain,” Wakeford said in a statement.
