19/11/2012 (Bernama) - The Higher Education Ministry has approved a proposal by Felcra Berhad (Felcra) to establish a college at Felcra Changkat Lada, Seberang Perak, Felcra chairman Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said today.

He said a plan had been drawn up for development of the RM300-million college which was expected to be ready in two years.

"The establishment of the college is to fulfill a corporate social responsibility to provide education to the second generation of Felcra settlers," he told reporters after opening the RM1-million Seberang Perak Felcra Berhad hall, here.

Tajuddin said the Perak government had approved a 60-hectare land for the construction of the college, which would focus on courses associated with agriculture, plantations, biotechnology, financial management, information technology and business laws.

He said the Felcra Training Centre in Seberang Perak would be used as a temporary campus and the intake of students would begin early next year.

It was the objective of Felcra to develop the college into a university college in five years and into a university in 10 years, he said.

He also said that Felcra would set up an agricultural research and development centre focusing on padi and oil palm adjacent to the college as a boost.
