Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports
17/11/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 101,442 tonnes of cargo comprising 85,947 tonnes of import cargo and 15,495 tonnes of export cargo including 3,014 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 85,947 tonnes comprised 17,876 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,697 tonnes of bulk cargo; 8,307 tonnes of coal; 7,458 tonnes of DAP; 947 tonnes of oil cake meals; 1,704 tonnes of urea and 43,958 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 15,495 tonnes comprised 11,686 tonnes of containerised cargo; 140 tonnes of b bulk cargo; 1,079 tonnes of cement cargo; 190 tonnes of sugar and 2,400 tonnes of talcum powder. As many as 3,014 containers comprising 1,661 import containers and 1,353 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 381 of 20's and 574 of 40's loaded while 0 of 20's and 66 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 399 of 20's and 74 of 40's loaded containers while 188 of 20's and 309 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There are six ships namely Pacific Green; Ozay 5; Andromeda; Naxihe; Ioanna D and UASC Shuwaikh with one containerised cargo, one oil tanker, one bulk cargo, one containerised cargo, one general cargo and two containerised cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There are seven vessels viz Ioanna D; UASC Shuwaikh; Azerbaijan; Tabea; APL Chicago; Kota Gambira and Capri Cement with one general cargo, one containerised cargo, one oil tanker, three containerised cargo and one bulk cargo respectively are currently at the berths.
There are three ships namely Kota Gembira; Alpine Mangolia and Tabea sailed out to sea on Friday, while three more ships namely TS Pusan; Azerbaijan and BSLE Teresa are expected to sail on Saturday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 102,880 tonnes comprising 82,233 tonnes of import cargo and 20,647 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,823 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) were handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The total import cargo of 82,233 tonnes includes 44,571 tonnes of furnace oil; 12,000 tonnes of palm oil; 6,928 tonnes of canola seeds; 2,993 tonnes of chemicals; 332 tonnes of project cargo; and 15,409 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 20,647 tonnes includes 1,419 tonnes of cement cargo and 19,228 tonnes of containerised cargo.
There are two vessels namely C V Saigon Express and C V City of Beijing sailed out to sea on Friday morning. While there is another vessel namely M T Harsanadi is expected to sail on same day evening. A total number of seven vessels viz CV City of Beijing; C V Saigon Express; M V Beagle-III; M V Leopard-B; M V Cos Glory; M T Harsanadi; M T Chemroad Quest and M T Olympic Spirit-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, canola seeds, chemicals, palm oil and furnace oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as two ships namely C V Cape Flowers and M T Gennaro Levoli with containerised cargo and chemical cargo respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. There are two vessels viz C V Cape Flowers and M T Gennaro Levoli with containerised cargo and chemicals cargo are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Engrovo Pak Container Terminal respectively on Friday. While there is another vessel namely C V MSC Jade is expected to arrive at Port Qasim on sameday.
