Olam eys 100% Sustainable CPO Output in Gabon in 4 years
31/10/2012 (TODAY Online) - Commodities trader Olam International aims to reach its target of 100 per cent certified sustainable palm oil production in Gabon in four years, joining a long list of growers that are producing environment-friendly palm oil, the Dow Jones news agency reported. To do so, the company has devoted 8 to 9 months to a new planting procedure, which includes high conservation value studies, forest inventory and engagement with the local communities, said Ms Alexandra Booth, Olam's sustainability officer for palm oil.
She also expects a certification audit by the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil to start once its mills, which boil and crush oil palm fruits into crude palm oil, commence operations in the West African country.
