Activities at Karachi and Qasim Ports

23/10/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 136,989 tonnes of cargo comprising 109,267 tonnes of import cargo and 27,722 tonnes of export cargo including 4,575 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 109,267 tonnes comprised 38,445 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,259 tonnes of general cargo; 3,890 tonnes of DAP and 65,673 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 27,722 tonnes comprised 19,059 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,943 tonnes of cement and 6,720 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,575 containers comprising 2,580 containers import and 1,995 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The brakeup of imported containers shows 710 of 20's and 910 of 40's loaded while 6 of 20's and 22 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 597 of 20's and 192 of 40's loaded containers while 272 of 20's and 371 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Five ships namely Wan Hai-601, Cape Flores, MOL Dignity, UASC Shuwaikh and DL Clover with four container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Six vessels viz MOL Dignity, UASC Shuwaikh, Hyundai Freedom, OEL Trust, MT Quetta and Lodestar Genesis with four container ships and two oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths.

One ethanol tanker namely Sunrise Eco sailed out to sea on Monday, while three ships namely MT Quetta, Lodestar Genesis and Hyundai Freedom carrying two oil tankers and one container ship respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday. A container vessel viz Ever Result due to arrive on Tuesday, while five vessels viz APL Brisbane, Frontier Hachi, Bunga Lavander, Chrisopigi Lady and Dato Success with one container ship, one ethanol tanker, one chemicals carrier, one mogas ship and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 34,913 tonnes comprising 18,977 tonnes of import cargo and 15,936 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,422 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 18,977 tonnes includes 4,800 tonnes of palm oil; 1,442 tonnes of fertiliser and 12,293 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 15,936 tonnes includes 1,211 tonnes of rice and 14,725 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 1,422 containers comprising 647 containers import and 775 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

Two ships namely CV Maersk Utha and MV Anna Dorothea with container vessel and bulk cargo ship sailed out to sea on Monday morning. A total number of five vessels viz CV Maersk Utha, MV Infinite Wisdom, MV Anna Dorothea, MT Bow Lion and MT Global Peace are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, rice, fertiliser and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

A canola seeds carrier MV King Coal is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. MV King Coal with canola seeds is expected to take berth at Grains & Fertiliser Terminal (FAP) on Monday. Two ships namely CV CMA CGM Mozart and CV Nedlloyd Tasman with containers are due to arrive on Tuesday.
