17/10/2012 (allghananews.com) - When Mitch Miller died in July 2010, most people remembered him as the man who invited everyone to sing along. On his popular 1960s TV program Sing Along with Mitch, an all-male chorus sang well-loved songs while the words appeared on the screen so viewers could join in. A Los Angeles Times obituary cited Miller’s belief that one reason for the program’s success was the appeal of his chorus: “I always made a point of hiring singers who were tall, short, bald, round, fat, whatever—everyday-looking guys.” From that unified diversity came beautiful music in which everyone was invited to participate.

It was this inclusiveness that made Miller such a success! However, this lesson is obviously lost on the European Commission.

Pandering to the interests of the EU’s own indigenous edible oil industries, the Office of the Environment Directorate of the European Commission (EC) funded green group surrogates to carry out vicious attacks against palm oil, based as it turns out, on evidence that the EC is fully aware is based on manufactured and false evidence!

Says Libertiamo, an Italian civil libertarian group: European governments are spending significant sums ostensibly to engage in environmental advocacy in the developing world. In reality these campaigns were designed to prop up and protect the EU’s own indigenous edible oilseed industries which are hapless and unable to compete on a level playing field with the hyper yielding palm oil!

Libertiamo concludes that NGOs have become "peddlers of half truths to drive donations and attract government largesse. And donor governments support them, in the interest of uncompetitive domestic industries and neo colonial ambitions!"

Noting the predilection of these NGOs to make spectacular claims, Libertiamo observed that one of the most commonly used is a statistic that in SE Asia alone, the equivalent of 300 football fields are deforested every hour for palm oil plantations, a claim that has been exposed as a significant distortion of facts by the FAO’s recent "State of the Forests 2011" report which observes that whilst rates of deforestation between 1990-2000 were high at a time of significant development in SE Asia, the trend had reversed dramatically between 2000-2010. Deforestation rates during this latter period "more than halved, making the NGO claims of rampant expansion entirely false!"

These same false accusations are now dredged up and used by the usual EC surrogates such as Greenpeace and WWF against African palm oil now that the African nations have woken up to the huge economic potential of palm oil cultivation and export!

For generations, the Africans were producing palm oil. In fact, palm oil originated from this region. However, most of the oil produced was used for domestic consumption and so long as that was so, the EC was unconcerned. However, the moment, the African nations, especially those in West Africa had taken to cultivating palm oil on a commercial scale, they had to be stopped at all costs and so the green groups attack dogs used so extensively against SE Asian palm oil were let loose to attack African palm oil!

PRESS RELEASES by these green group surrogates of the EC were distributed to international news media. However, thanks to the democratization of information by the internet and social media and conscientious civil libertarian groups like Libertiamo, the days of the EC’s ability to hide behind surrogates like Greenpeace and WWF and feed the media their utter ugly falsehoods and craven lies on palm oil are numbered!

The days are counting down when the EC would be held to account by their peoples and the very same media that they had exploited so cynically over the years, feeding them with manufactured and false evidence against palm oil!
