Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
15/10/2012 (Business Recorder) -The Karachi Port handled 154,739 tonnes of cargo comprising 120,200 tonnes of import cargo and 34,539 tonnes of export cargo including 5,735 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 120,200 tonnes comprised 37,797 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,878 tonnes of general cargo; 24,081 tonnes of bulk cargo and 49,444 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,539 tonnes comprised 24,550 tonnes of containerised cargo; 926 tonnes of general cargo; 762 tonnes of bulk cargo and 8,301 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,735 containers comprising 3,177 containers import and 2,558 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 742 of 20's and 1,032 of 40's loaded while 371 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 686 of 20's and 348 of 40's loaded containers while 392 of 20's and 392 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. Six ships with three container ships, one oil tanker, one general cargo ship and one fertiliser carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Three vessels with two container ships and one cement carrier respectively are currently at the berths.
Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 27,119 tonnes comprising 22,347 tonnes of import cargo and 4,772 tonnes of export cargo inclusive nil loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 22,347 tonnes includes 8,000 tonnes of palm oil; 4,502 tonnes of fertiliser and 9,845 tonnes of phosphoric acid.
The total export cargo of 4,772 tonnes includes 2,585 tonnes of cement and 2,187 tonnes of wheat. An edible oil tanker namely MT Bow Sagami sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours. A total number of seven vessels viz CV Lantau Arrow, MV Thurgali, MT Ivy Galaxy, MT Bow Sagami, MT Global Aker, MV Anna Dorothea and MV Ocean Sea are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, cement, fertiliser, phosphoric acid and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as four ships namely Stolt Stream, Vermilion Energy, AS Olivia and STX Eastern with MEG, furnace oil, phosphoric acid and paraxylne are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Two vessels viz MT Stolt Stream and MT Vermilion Energy with MEG and furnace oil are expected to take berths at Multi Purpose Terminal (MW-1) and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Saturday.
