Palm Oil To Stay on as Major Revenue Earner
28/09/2012 (The Star) - Palm oil is expected to remain one of the country’s main export revenue earners due to its competitive price and increase in usage.
Deputy Plantations and Commodities Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainudin said there was a significant increase in the use of palm oil in the food sector and other industries.
He added that the rising demand for palm oil was an advantage to Malaysia.
“We are also taking steps to remain ahead as a producer of the commodity. We are continuously looking at how to diversify, including converting it into biofuel,” he said in response to a question by Mohd Nizar Zakaria (BN-Parit).
Hamzah said palm oil exports amounted to RM83.4bil last year and was being shipped to 150 countries.
