Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
25/08/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 75,777 tonnes of cargo comprising 62,619 tonnes of import cargo and 13,158 tonnes of export cargo including 2,929 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 62,619 tonnes comprised of 24,790 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,813 tonnes of general cargo; 15,500 tonnes of bulk cargo and 15,516 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 13,158 tonnes comprised of 11,886 tonnes of containerised cargo and 1,272 tonnes of bulk cargo. A total number of 2,929 containers comprising 1,822 containers import and 1,107 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday. The brake up of imported containers shows 748 of 20's and 470 of 40's of loaded while 98 of 20's and 18 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 434 of 20's and 147 of 40's loaded containers while and 75 of 20's 152 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Four ships namely UASC Shuwaikh, Santa Rafeala, Southern Jaugar and Pacific Green carrying two container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Six vessels viz Southern Jaugar, MT Quetta, Turquoise T, King Hero, Sam Dragon and Rio Blanco carrying three oil tankers, two general cargo ships and one container ship respectively are currently at the berths.
Two ships namely Rio Blanco and Proikonissos carrying one container ship and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Friday, while two ships namely MT Quetta and King Hero with one container ship and one general cargo ship respectively are expected to sail on Saturday. Two vessels viz Lodestar Genesis and Electa carrying one chemicals carrier and one mogas ship respectively due to arrive on Friday, while five vessels viz OOCL Busan, Wan Hai-605, Asian Trader, Cypress Galaxy and Tabernacle Prince carrying three container ships, one palm oil tanker and one cement carrier respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
Port Qasim
A cargo volume of 88,704 tonnes comprising 78,495 tonnes of import cargo and 10,209 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 794 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Friday.
The total import cargo of 78,495 tonnes includes 61,266 tonnes of furnace oil; 3,000 tonnes of edible oil; 6,060 tonnes of wheat and 8,169 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 10,209 tonnes includes 1,704 tonnes of wheat and 8,505 tonnes of containerised cargo.
Five ships namely CV APL Atlanta, CV City of Beijing, MT Lahore, MT Bunga Alamanda and MV Liberty Grace carrying containers, furnace oil, edible oil and wheat sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while another ship namely MV Genius Mariner with wheat is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of seven vessels viz CV APL Atlanta, CV City of Beijing, MV Heckor, Liberty Grace, MV Genius Mariner, MT Lahore and MV Bunga Alamanda are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, wheat, furnace oil and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as eight ships namely Asian Trader, Olympic Spirit, Baltic, Oceanic Coral, Unicorn Emerald, Out Rivaling-2, AMS Pegasus and SFL Kent with containers, furnace oil, edible oil, wheat, rice, corn and cement respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
A total number of four vessels viz CV Asian Trader, Olympic Spirit, Oceanic Coral and Out Rivaling-2 with containers, furnace oil, edible oil and rice respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Grains & Fertiliser (FAP) respectively on Friday.
