Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports
03/08/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 115,447 tonnes of cargo comprising 87,284 tonnes of import cargo and 28,163 tonnes of export cargo including 2,714 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 87,284 tonnes comprised of 23,231 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,053 tonnes of bulk cargo: 4,253 tonnes of DAP; 2,800 tonnes of coal and 57,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 28,163 tonnes comprised of 7,661 tonnes of containerised cargo; 20 tonnes of general cargo; 853 tonnes of cement and 19,629 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 2,714 containers comprising 1,713 containers import and 1,001 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 138 of 20's and 774 of 40's of loaded while 21 of 20's and 3 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 231 of 20's and 108 of 40's loaded containers while and 286 of 20's nil 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. Three ships namely MT Quetta, Bon Vent and TS Pusan with two oil tankers and one container ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz APL Brisbane, Hyundai Freedom, Naxihe, Bon Vent and Yoma-6 carrying two container ships, one oil tanker and one bulk cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.
Three ships namely APL Brisbane, Hyundai Freedom and Two Million Ways carrying two container ships and one mogas carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while four ships namely Naxihe, UASC Shuwaikh, Tabea and Jia Tai with three container ships and one DAP carrier are expected to sail on Friday.
Four vessels viz UASC Shuwaikh, Vishva Bandhan, UBC Cyprus and Adelina carrying one container ship, one coal carrier, one cement carrier and one corn ship respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while three vessels viz APL Seatile, OOCL Dalian and CPO Japan carrying two container ships and one mogas carrier respectively are due to arrive on Friday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 134,670 tonnes comprising 94,473 tonnes of import cargo and 40,197 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,614 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The total import cargo of 94,473 tonnes includes 47,409 tonnes of diesel oil; 11,000 tonnes of palm oil; 282 tonnes of project cargo; 3,045 tonnes of canola seeds and 32,737 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 40,197 tonnes includes 4,268 tonnes of cement and 35,929 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 3,614 containers comprising 1,723 containers import and 1,891 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. Three ships namely CV CMA CGM Wagner, MT Sunrise Wisteria and MT Al-Salam-II with containers, edible oil and diesel oil respectively sail out to sea on Thursday afternoon.
A total number of seven vessels viz CV CMA CGM Wagner, CV MSC Jade, MV Fisher-D, MV BBC Arizona, MV Conti Sphir, MT Sunrise Wisteria and MT Al-Salam-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, project cargo, canola seeds, palm oil and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours. As many as four ships namely MSC Lana, Hawk, Anoushka and Mali Bu with containers, cement and palm oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
A total number of five vessels viz CV Mare Atlanta, CV MSC Lana, CV Belgica, Hawk and Mali Bu carrying containers, cement and palm oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday. A container ship namely CV Lantau Arrow is due to arrive on Friday.
