Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

31/07/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 55,773 tonnes of cargo comprising 36,975 tonnes of import cargo and 18,798 tonnes of export cargo including 1,964 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 36,975 tonnes comprised of 12,889 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,348 tonnes of general cargo; 10,538 tonnes of bulk cargo: 3,662 tonnes of DAP; 6,876 tonnes of rock phosphate and 6,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 18,798 tonnes comprised of 13,024 tonnes of containerised cargo; 574 tonnes of cement and 5,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 1,964 containers comprising 1,028 containers import and 936 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 401 of 20's and 240 of 40's of loaded while 33 of 20's and 57 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 368 of 20's and 154 of 40's loaded containers while and 54 of 20's 103 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Four ships namely YM North, APL Chicago, Hawk and Arundel Castle with two container ship, one bulk cargo ship and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Four vessels viz Wan Hai-601, Marcomanche, Emerald Star and Jipro Neftis carrying one container ship, two general cargo ships and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.

Three ships namely Clayton-II, Marjatta P and Jipro Neftis with one container ship, one rock phosphate carrier and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while another ship namely Emerald Star with general cargo ship is expected to sail on Tuesday.

Two vessels viz MT Quetta and Diyyinah-1 with one crude oil tanker and one naphtha ship respectively due to arrive on Monday, while four vessels viz R Sea, TS Pusan, MT Lahore and Bon Vent carrying two container ships, one crude oil tanker and one ethanol ship respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 80,993 tonnes comprising import cargo and nil export cargo was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 80,993 tonnes includes 48,631 tonnes of furnace oil; 15,953 tonnes of palm oil; 3,261 tonnes of chemicals and 13,148 tonnes of canola seeds. MT Atlanta with diesel oil sailed out to sea during last 24 hours, while two ships namely MT STX Forte and MT Chang Ani-7 carrying chemicals and rice respectively are expected to sail on Monday afternoon.

A total number of seven vessels viz MV Fisher-D, MT Atlanta, MT STX Forte, MT Galaxy, MT New Horizon, MT Chang Ani-7 and MV Conti Sphir are currently occupying berths to load/offload palm oil, furnace oil, chemicals and canola seeds respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as three ships Theresa Bitung, Chemroad Nova and Olympic Serenity with palm oil and furnace oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. A total number of two vessels viz CV Mearsk Montana and MT Theresa Bitung carrying containers and palm oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Monday.
