25/07/2012 (Bernama) - The Johor Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Department has guaranteed enough supply and stock of cooking oil during the fasting month of Ramadan and Aidilfitri.

Its Director, Ayob Abd Rahman said inspection and surveillance would be carried out by the department at every district in the state to ensure enough supply.

"There is no shortage of cooking oil in the state except for certain specific brands. On average Johor has a supply of 6,606 metric tonnes a month and that is enough to cater for the demand," he told reporters after visiting a cooking oil refinery at Taman Mount, here, today.

Ayob said consumers need not panic as Johor had a private cooking oil refinery that was able to increase its output by 10 per cent if there was an increase in demand.

"We want the consumers to understand that the ingredients in all cooking oil brands are almost the same as the producers must comply with Malaysia Palm Oil Board standards," he said.

He said the department was stringent on its enforcement and since January, there were three cases of cooking oil offences reported in the state, while confiscated goods amounted to RM250,000.
