Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

13/07/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 89,033 tonnes of cargo comprising 60,345 tonnes of import cargo and 28,688 tonnes of export cargo including nil loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 60,345 tonnes comprised of 43,542 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,055 tonnes of general cargo; 8,054 tonnes of coal and 5,694 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 28,688 tonnes comprised of 11,185 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10,070 tonnes of general cargo; 1,863 tonnes of cement and 5,570 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

A container vessel viz Ever Result is currently at the berth. Four ships namely Baltic Commander, Le Jin, APL Brisbane and Kesari Prem with two general cargo ships, one container ship and one coal carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while a container ship namely Salis is expected to sail on Friday.

A container vessel viz Tamina due to arrive on Thursday, while another container vessel viz Dong A Iris is due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 116,077 tonnes, comprising 85,606 tonnes of import cargo and 30,471 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,526 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 85,606 tonnes includes 52,500 tonnes of diesel furnace oil; 4,174 tonnes of edible palm oil; 3,413 tonnes of phosphoric acid; chemicals; 6,443 tonnes of canola seeds and 19,076 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 30,471 tonnes includes 1,553 tonnes of cement and 28,918 tonnes of containerised cargo.

A total number of 2,526 containers comprising 1,004 containers import and 1,522 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

Three ships namely MV Cape, MT Kaimon Galaxy and MT STX Jaguar sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two more ships namely CV CMA CGM Eiffel and MT Al-Soor-II with containers and diesel oil are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of six vessels viz CV CMA CGM Eiffel, MV Salta, MT Kaimon Galaxy, MV Cape, MT STX Jaguar and MT Al-soor-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, phosphoric acid, canola seeds, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as three ships Hammonia Pacificum, Argent Aster and Vermilion Energy with containers, palm oil and furnace oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of three vessels viz CV Hammonia Pacificum, MT Argent Aster and MT Vermilion Energy with containers, palm oil and furnace oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.

A container ship namely CV New Delhi Express due to arrive on Thursday, while two more container ships namely CV Asian Trader and CV MSC Jade are due to arrive on Friday.

As many as three container ships namely CV CMA CGM Eiffel, CV Hanjin Elizabeth and CV Maersk Utha are also due to arrive at Port Qasim.
