09/07/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 139,266 tonnes of cargo comprising 116,544 tonnes of import cargo and 22,722 tonnes of export cargo including 5,561 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 116,544 tonnes comprised of 51,742 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,890 tonnes of general cargo; 24,476 tonnes of bulk cargo and 38,436 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 22,722 tonnes comprised of 19,566 tonnes of containerised cargo; 20 tonnes of general cargo and 3,136 tonnes of bulk cargo. A total number of 5,561 containers comprising 3,476 containers import and 2,085 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 1,276 of 20's and 1,048 of 40's of loaded while 46 of 20's and 29 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 624 of 20's and 182 of 40's loaded containers while and 277 of 20's 410 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Eight ships namely Southern Jaugar and Nexien with five container ships, one cement carrier and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Ten vessels with five container ships, one cement carrier, one coal carrier and three oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 94,798 tonnes, comprising 80,698 tonnes of import cargo and 14,100 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,331 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 80,698 tonnes includes 35,896 tonnes of furnace oil; 8,500 tonnes of palm oil; 10,159 tonnes of chemicals and 26,143 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 14,100 tonnes includes 1,809 tonnes of cement and 12,291 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Two ships namely CV Safmarine Ngami and MV Siva Mumbai with containers and chemicals sailed out to sea on Saturday morning. A total number of seven vessels viz CV Safmarine Ngami, MV Salta, MV STX Rose, MV Cyrus-1, Chemroad Sea, MT Karachi and MV Siva Mumbai are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, palm oil, furnace oil and chemicals respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as three ships CMA CGM Amber, Lantau Arrow and Vermilion Energy with containers and furnace oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. A total number of two vessels viz CV CMA CGM Amber and CV Lantau Arrow with containers are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Saturday.
