GAR Publishes Second Sustainability Report

This is the second sustainability report published by GAR. The report outlines the Company's advancement in stakeholder engagement, managing sustainability in the plantations, research and development, labour relations, social and community affairs and, supplier, customer and consumer relations.

GAR's Sustainability Report 2011 covers the plantations, mills and key aspects of palm oil sales operations of the Company. The report also highlights the important milestones for GAR in its sustainability journey which includes the recent publication of a High Carbon Stock (HCS) Forest Study Report on 4 June 2012, following the completion of the HCS forest fieldwork conducted under GAR's Forest Conservation Policy. GAR and its subsidiary PT SMART Tbk (SMART) collaborated with global non-profit The Forest Trust (TFT) and Greenpeace for the HCS Forest Study. The report was presented at the REDD+ Task Force Seminar titled: "We Care, We Share. A Gallery of Good Practices in Land Based Industries: Palm Oil, Mining and Forestry" on 5 June 2012.

The report is guided by international best practice and is measured against the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). In developing this report, the main considerations have been to ensure that all material and key sustainability issues are addressed in a clear and direct manner with the best possible supporting data. The company is committed to continuing such reporting and addressing stakeholder concerns and key issues of sustainability.
