BURSA MALAYSIA: Share Prices End Mixed, CI Marginally Higher
26/06/2012 (Bernama) - The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) which touched a record high of 1,611.50 after 40 minutes of trading, continued erasing gains to 1,603.12, up 0.05 points with share prices ended mixed Monday.
The market barometer opened 0.36 of a point easier at 1,602.71.
InterPacific Research Head Pong Teng Siew said plantation and palm oil-related counters weighed on the key index.
"There wasn't enough follow-through buying in early trade despite local funds throwing support which eased towards the end of the trading.
"The index did quite well in contrast to regional market performances. It held up firmly not giving up all gains on window dressing. "It will stay this way more or less till this weekend," he told Bernama.
He said the continued fears about Europe's debt crisis and faltering global growth sapped investors' confidence eventually contributing to the market sentiment as well.
The Finance Index erased 16.18 points to 14,237.87, the Plantation Index fell 47 points to 8,459.63 and the Industrial Index eased 5.76 points to 2,817.88.
The FBM Emas Index edged down 3.25 points to 10,953.57, the FBM Mid 70 Index dropped 28.41 points to 11,977.2 and the FBM Ace Index declined 7.88 points to 4,301.72.
Gainers led losers 371 to 360 while 337 counters were unchanged, 511 untraded and 18 others were suspended.
Turnover eased to 1.072 billion shares worth RM1.250 billion from Friday's 1.478 billion shares worth RM1.703 billion.
Volume on the main market dwindled to 825.208 million units worth RM1.214 billion from 987.531 million units valued at RM1.640 billion previouisly.
Turnover on the ACE market declined to 176.949 million shares valued at RM25.838 million from 406.297 million shares worth RM42.34 million last Friday.
Warrants also decreased to 67.763 million units worth RM9.160 million from 81.574 million units valued at RM10.233 million.
Of the actives, Luster Industries fell 3.5 sen to 15 sen, Luster Industries-WA inched down two sen to 10.5 sen and Ho Wah Genting earned three sen to 44.5 sen.
Among heavyweights, Maybank lost two sen to RM8.71, Sime Darby inched up one sen to RM9.91, CIMB was flat at RM7.58 and Petronas Chemicals eased four sen to RM6.52.
Consumer products accounted for 31.553 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 365.591 million, construction 36.580 million, trade and services 247.972 million, technology 9.208 million, infrastructure 25.252 million, finance 40.519 million, hotels 375,800, properties 52.169 million, plantations 10.221 million, mining 11,000, REITs 5.674 million and closed/fund 79,000.
