Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

23/06/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 61,524 tonnes of cargo including 43,877 tonnes of import, 17,647 tonnes of export cargo and 2,739 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) during the last 24 hours of business activities ended at 0700 hours on Friday. A total number of 1,530 loaded containers including 767 loaded 20' containers and 763 loaded 40' containers are handled during the reported period.

While there are 231 total unloaded containers including 16 unloaded 20' containers and 215 unloaded 40' containers are handled during business hours on Friday. The total 43,877 tonnes of import cargo comprised of 15,487 tonnes of total containerised cargo; 22,200 tonnes of coal cargo and 6,190 tonnes of oil and liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 17,647 tonnes comprised of 7,883 tonnes of total containerised cargo; 101 tonnes of b bulk cargo; 1,119 tonnes of cement cargo; 6,144 tonnes of loose bulk cement cargo and 2,400 tonnes of oil and liquid cargo. A total number of four cargo vessels namely Northern Democrat, Ital Moderena, M T Karachi and AS Orelia carrying containerised cargo, crude oil tankers and tallow oil tankers respectively are sail out to the sea during the business activity hours on Friday.

There are a total number of three cargo vessels namely APL Brisbane, Vine-2, Golden Gion, Glenden, Arcadia, Jag Ravi, Catherina and Nadeen are currently occupying the berth to load/offload containerised cargo, loose bulk cement cargo, ethanol liquid tankers, coal cargo and cement cargo respectively at Bulk Oil Pier, East Wharves, Pakistan International Containers Terminal, West Wharves and Karachi International Containers Terminal during the reported period of business hours on Friday.

There are four cargo vessels namely Glenden, APL Brisbane, Vine-2 and Golden Gion are expected to sail out to the sea after loading and offloading ethanol liquid cargo, loose bulk cement cargo and cement cargo respectively from Bulk Oil Pier, East Wharves, Pakistan International Containers Terminal, West Wharves and Karachi International Containers Terminal on Friday. While there are three more cargo vessels namely Catherina, Tessa and Jag Ravi are expected to sail out to the sea after loading and offloading cement cargo and containerised cargo respectively from West Wharves and Pakistan International Containers Terminal respectively on Saturday.

There are four cargo vessels namely APL Sharjah, YM North, Jolly and ECE Nur Bayraktar containerised cargo and steel cargo respectively are expected to arrive on Friday evening. There are seven cargo vessels namely Oriental Lotus, Pardis, E R Sydney, Tampa Bay, Kota Azam, UASC Shuwaikh and UBS Cyprus carrying ethanol liquid tankers, containerised cargo and cement cargo respectively are expected to arrive during the business activity hours on Saturday. While there are six cargo vessels namely Hyundai Confidence, LEO Perdana, Idship Bulker, Toxotis, Sea Fearer and Alam Bakti carrying containerised cargo, Fertiliser cargo, coal cargo, sulphur chemical cargo and ethanol liquid tankers respectively are expected to arrive on Sunday.

PORT QASIM
Port Qasim maintained port's activities of total cargo volume of 117,313 tonnes including 85,752 tonnes of import cargo; 31,561 tonnes of export cargo and there 2,354 loaded and empty containers are handled during the last 24 hours of business activity on Friday.

The total import cargo volume of 85,752 tonnes comprised of 43,507 tonnes of Diesel oil; 16,300 tonnes of palm oil; 5,425 tonnes of fertiliser and 20,520 tonnes of containerised cargo are handled during the business activity hours of the port on Friday. The total export cargo volume of 31,561 tonnes comprised of 1,971 tonnes of rice; 5,384 tonnes of cement cargo and 24,206 tonnes of containerised cargo are handled during the reported period of activities on Friday. There is only one cargo vessel namely C V Just Trader carrying containerised cargo is expected to sail out to the sea on Friday morning, while there are four more cargo vessels namely M V Ocean Prince, M V Star Masaya, M T SC Taipei and M T Al-Soor-II are expected to sail out to the sea on the same day afternoon.

There are a total number of seven cargo vessels namely C V Safmarine Ngami, M V Brizo, M T Bom Chin, M T Chemroad Vega, M T Agent Daisy, M T Ginga Eagle and M T Sunrise Wisteria carrying containerised cargo, furnace oil tankers, palm oil tankers and chemical cargo respectively are hanging out at the outer anchorage of the port on Friday.

A total number of five cargo vessels namely C V Safemarine Ngami, C V Tempa Bay, M T Bom Chin, M T Chemroad Vega and M T Sunrise Wisteria carrying containerised cargo, palm oil tankers and chemicals cargo respectively are scheduled to take berths at Port Qasim International Containers Terminal, MW-1, Liquid Containers Terminal and Engro VOpak Containers Terminal on Friday evening. There is another cargo vessel namely M V BBC Kusan is expected to arrive at Port Qasim on Saturday, while there is only one cargo vessel namely C V Maersk Kentucky is happened to arrive on Sunday during the business hours.
