Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports
02/06/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 70,761 tonnes of cargo comprising 52,985 tonnes of import cargo and 17,776 tonnes of export cargo including 3,274 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 52,985 tonnes comprised of 28,348 tonnes of containerised cargo; 7,937 tonnes of general cargo; 15,000 tonnes of coal and 1,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 17,776 tonnes comprised of 11,653 tonnes of containerised cargo; 210 tonnes of general cargo; 1,423 tonnes of cement and 4,490 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 3,274 containers comprising 1,943 containers import and 1,331 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 797 of 20's and 477 of 40's of loaded while 152 of 20's and 20 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 399 of 20's and 264 of 40's loaded containers while and 14 of 20's 195 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Six ships namely MT Karachi, Berthea, St. Jerneborg, King Fortune, De Shun and Zhong Ren-1500 with two oil tankers, two general cargo ships, one tug ship and one barge respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz Cap Verde, Wan Hai-603, Yaran, Bow Cedar and Anne with three container ships, one oil tanker and one bulk cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.
Two ships namely Bow Cedar and Wan Hai-603 with two container ships sailed out to sea on Friday, while three ships namely Kota Akbar, Yaran and Hellen with two container ships and one naphtha ship are expected to sail on Saturday. Four vessels viz APL Sokhna, YM Taichung, Winterset and ISE with two container ships, one cement carrier and one steel ship respectively due to arrive on Friday, while two vessels viz Asian Trader and Wan Hai-603 with two container ships respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 63,748 tonnes, comprising 43,546 tonnes of import cargo and 20,202 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,111 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Friday.
The total import cargo of 43,546 tonnes includes 33,419 tonnes of furnace oil; 4,800 tonnes of edible oil; 2,198 tonnes of chemicals and 3,129 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo includes 20,202 tonnes of containerised cargo. Two ships namely CV Jakarta Tower and CV MSC Jenny with containers sailed out to sea on Friday. A total number of five vessels namely CV Jakarta Tower, CV MSC Jenny, MT Harsandi, MT Genie and MT Bow Pride are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, chemicals, furnace oil and palm oil respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as ten ships Safmarine Ngami, Asian Trader, Ville D Aquarius, Bow Fraternity, SC Shanghai, Al-Buhaira, Outrivaling-3, BBC Quebec, Al-Salam-II and Turouoise-T with containers, edible oil, furnace oil, steel scrape, general cargo and soyabeen oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
A total number of seven vessels viz CV Safmarine Ngami, CV Asian Trader, CV Ville D Aquarius, MT SC Shanghai, MV Outrivaling-3, MV BBC Quebec and MV Turouoise-T with containers, edible oil, furnace oil, steel scrape, general cargo and soyabeen oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Multi Purpose Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday.
