Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

29/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 141,467 tonnes of cargo comprising 115,929 tonnes of import cargo and 25,538 tonnes of export cargo including 5,454 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 115,929 tonnes comprised of 39,949 tonnes of containerised cargo; 19,380 tonnes of coal and 56,600 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 25,538 tonnes comprised of 24,456 tonnes of containerised cargo and 1,082 tonnes of cement. A total number of 5,454 containers include 3,366 import and 2,088 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. The brake up of imported containers shows 960 of 20's and 963 of 40's of loaded while 440 of 20's and 20 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 724 of 20's and 386 of 40's loaded containers while and 218 of 20's 187 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Six ships namely OOCL Dalian, APL Chicago, UASC Ajman, Naxihe, Aspam Sun and Puma with four container ships and two general cargo ships respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Six vessels viz Lindavia, CSL Ride, OEL Trust, Hyundai Bangkok, Puma and MT Lahore with four container ships, one general cargo ship and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths. Three ships namely OEL Trust, APL Brisbane and Forever SW with two container ships and one coal carrier sailed out to sea on Monday, while six ships namely Lindavia, Hyundai Bangkok, Marcampania, Maersk Marmata, MT Lahore and Abdullatif-S with three container ships, two oil tankers and one cement carrier are expected to sail on Tuesday.

Four vessels viz Tampa Bay, Bruno Sculte, Chem Rige and MT Karachi with two container ships, one ethanol ship and one oil tanker respectively due to arrive on Monday, while six vessels viz Omega Queen, Berthea, Hellen, UBC Cyprus, Rochester Castle and BBC Abgelia with two naphtha ships, one ethanol ship, one cement carrier, one steel coils ship and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 46,451 tonnes, comprising 16,609 tonnes of import cargo and 29,842 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,979 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 16,609 tonnes includes 7,850 tonnes of palm oil and 8,759 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 29,842 tonnes includes 1,000 tonnes of wheat and 28,842 tonnes of containerised cargo. A container ship namely CV Maersk Utha sailed out to sea on Monday morning, while two more ships namely MV Luilang Wisdom and MT Bow Fertility with wheat and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of four vessels namely CV Maersk Utha, CV Sargasso-C, MV Luilang Wisdom and MT Bow Fertility are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat and palm oil respectively during last 24 hours. As many as four ships CMA CGM Eiffel, Tampa Bay, EMA Querlda and Bow Pride with containers and palm oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of four vessels viz CV CMA CGM Eiffel, CV Tampa Bay, MT EMA Querlda and MT STX Knight with containers, palm oil and chemicals respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and Engro Vopak Terminal respectively on Monday.

Two ships namely CV Nedlloyd Drake and MT Al-Mukhtara with containers and furnace oil respectively are due to arrive on Monday, while three more ships namely CV CMA CGM Mozart, CV MSC Jenny and CV ER Perth with containers are due to arrive on Tuesday. As many as five ships namely CV Asian Trader, CV CMA CGM Chopan, CV Jakarta Tower, CV Asir and CV Villed Aquarus with containers are also due to arrive at Port Qasim.
