Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

28/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 96,161 tonnes of cargo comprising 79,051 tonnes of import cargo and 17,110 tonnes of export cargo including 5,506 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 79,051 tonnes comprised of 47,718 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,217 tonnes of general cargo; 25,500 tonnes of bulk cargo and 3,616 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 17,110 tonnes comprised of 10,553 tonnes of containerised cargo; 399 tonnes of general cargo; 5,158 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 5,506 containers include 3,792 import and 1,714 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 860 of 20's and 1,466 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 300 of 20's and 222 of 40's loaded containers while and 298 of 20's 336 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. Six ships with two container ships, two general cargo ships and two oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Eight vessels with four container ships, two general cargo ships and two oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 34,423 tonnes, comprising 24,123 tonnes of import cargo and 10,300 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,647 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 24,123 tonnes includes 5,600 tonnes of palm oil and 18,523 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 10,300 tonnes includes 830 tonnes of wheat and 9,470 tonnes of containerised cargo.

A coal carrier namely MV Ever Shining sailed out to sea on during last 24 hours, while another ship namely MV Safmarine Ngami with containers is expected to sail on Saturday morning. A total number of four vessels namely CV Safmarine Ngami, MT Bow Fertility, MV Ever Shining and MV Luilang Wisdom are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, palm oil and coal respectively during last 24 hours. As many as two ships MSC Saira-II and Sargasso-C with containers are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Two ships namely CV MSC Saira-II and CV Sargasso-C with containers are due to arrive on Saturday.
