Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

26/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 59,546 tonnes of cargo comprising 48,428 tonnes of import cargo and 11,118 tonnes of export cargo including 288 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 48,428 tonnes comprised of 1,215 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,960 tonnes of general cargo; 14,200 tonnes of coal and 31,053 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 11,118 tonnes comprised of 414 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,856 tonnes of cement and 4,848 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 288 containers include 267 import and 21 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 54 of 20's and 10 of 40's of loaded while 193 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 19 of 20's and 1 of 40's loaded containers while and nil of 20's nil of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Three ships namely Sea Merchant, UBC Chille and Hongbo with two bulk cargo ships and one naphtha ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz Ikaria Angel, Forever SW, Parmis, Stolt Suisen and OXL Lotus with two bulk cargo ships, one container ship, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths. Five ships namely Stolt Suisen, Stavanger Eagle, Du Juan Song, OXL Lotus, Tamina and Dignity Ace with two oil tankers, two general cargo ships and one container ship sailed out to sea on Friday, while another ship namely Dignity Ace with vehicles is expected to sail on Saturday.

Eight vessels viz OOCL Dalian, APL Chicago, Tamina, Aspam Sun, Golden Dominance, Chem Rigel, Dignity Ace and Teteven with three container ships one oil tanker, one chemicals carrier, one ethanol ship, one vehicles carrier and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Friday, while five vessels viz UASC Ajman, APL Brisbane, Naxire, MT Lahore and Admire Coral with three container ships, one oil tanker and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 79,299 tonnes, comprising 54,394 tonnes of import cargo and 24,905 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,117 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Friday.

The total import cargo of 54,394 tonnes includes 21,310 tonnes of diesel oil; 6,566 tonnes of palm oil; 10,900 tonnes of coal and 15,618 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 24,905 tonnes includes 300 tonnes of wheat and 24,605 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Two ships namely CV Juist Trader and MT Jbu Oslo with containers and palm oil sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while another ship namely MV Ever Shining with coal is expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of six vessels namely CV CMA CGM Strauss, CV Juist Trader, MV Luilang Wisdom, MV Ever Shining, MT Jbu Oslo and MT Al-Salam-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, coal, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as two ships Safmarine Ngami and Bow Fertility with containers and palm oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. A total number of two vessels viz CV Safmarine Ngami and MT Bow Fertility with containers and palm oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Friday.

Three ships namely CV MSC Saira-II, CV Tampa Bay and MT Bow Pride with containers and palm oil respectively are due to arrive on Friday, while two more ships namely CV CV Sargasso Sea and MT Al-Mukhtara with containers and furnace oil are due to arrive on Saturday.
