Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

23/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 97,851 tonnes of cargo comprising 78,220 tonnes of import cargo and 19,631 tonnes of export cargo including 3,699 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 78,220 tonnes comprised of 29,159 tonnes of containerised cargo; 100 tonnes of general cargo; 4,461 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,516 tonnes of palm kernel; 1,945 tonnes of DAP and 44,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 19,631 tonnes comprised of 15,296 tonnes of containerised cargo; 67 tonnes of general cargo and 4,268 tonnes of cement.

A total number of 3,699 containers include 2,006 import and 1,693 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 829 of 20's and 578 of 40's of loaded while 17 of 20's and 2 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 404 of 20's and 320 of 40's loaded containers while and 159 of 20's 245 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Three ships namely Oriental Marguerite, Chemroute Sky and MOL Bravery carrying two oil tankers and one container ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Five vessels viz MT Quetta, Lodestar Genesis, Abdullatif S, UBC Chile and STX Patraikos with two oil tankers, two bulk cargo ships and one container ship respectively are currently at the berths.

Two ships namely Hyundai Highness, MT Quetta and Ocean Crown with one container ship, one oil tanker and one cement carrier sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while another ship namely Lodestar Genesis with one oil tanker is expected to sail on Wednesday.

Two vessels viz Stolt Suisen and Sea Wave with one tallow ship and one cement carrier respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while five vessels viz Stavanger Eagle, Chem Rigel, Forever SW, Ikaria Angel and Du Juan Song with one mogas ship, one ethanol ship, two coal carriers and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 86,008 tonnes, comprising 68,182 tonnes of import cargo and 17,826 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,103 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 68,182 tonnes includes 36,709 tonnes of furnace oil; 12,750 tonnes of coal; 11,016 tonnes of chemicals and 7,707 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 17,826 tonnes includes 2,370 tonnes of wheat and 15,456 tonnes of containerised cargo.

A container ship namely CV Lotus sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely MV Argent Daisy with chemicals is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of six vessels namely CV Lotus, MV Luilang Wisdom, MV Argent Daisy, Ever Shining, Athina-M and MT Donga Calypso are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, chemicals, furnace oil and edible oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as three ships Sea Land Washington, Hanjin San Diego and Jbu Oslo with containers and edible oil respectively are currently at the oouter anchorage of Port Qasim A total number of two vessels viz CV Sea Land Washington and Hanjin San Diego with containers are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Tuesday.
