Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports
21/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 106,520 tonnes of cargo comprising 76,276 tonnes of import cargo and 30,244 tonnes of export cargo including 5,362 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday.
The total import cargo of 76,276 tonnes comprised of 41,106 tonnes of containerised cargo; 12,572 tonnes of general cargo; 19,598 tonnes of bulk cargo and 3,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 30,244 tonnes comprised of 20,967 tonnes of containerised cargo; 302 tonnes of general cargo; 4,125 tonnes of bulk cargo and 4,850 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
A total number of 5,362 containers include 3,172 import and 2,190 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 870 of 20's and 1,151 of 40's of loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 550 of 20's and 284 of 40's loaded containers while and 324 of 20's 374 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Six ships carrying containers, general cargo, cement and oil tankers sailed out to sea during the reported period.
Five vessels with containers, general cargo and oil tanker are currently at the berths.
PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 137,311 tonnes, comprising 91,611 tonnes of import cargo and 45,700 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 5,505 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Saturday.
The total import cargo of 91,611 tonnes includes 29,605 tonnes of furnace oil; 1,532 tonnes of MEG; 5,261 tonnes of chemicals and 55,313 tonnes of containerised cargo.
The total export cargo of 45,700 tonnes includes 2,790 tonnes of wheat and 42,910 tonnes of containerised cargo.
One ship namely MT Norgas Napa with chemicals sailed out to sea during last 24 hours, while two more ships namely MT Lahore and MV Asian Trader with furnace oil and wheat are expected to sail on Saturday morning.
A total number of seven vessels namely CV Safmarine Nagmi, CV MSC Sierra-II, MV Asian Trader, MT Harsandi, MT Lahore, MT Norgas Napa and MV Luilang Wisdom are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, chemicals, furnace oil and MEG respectively during last 24 hours.
As many as three ships Saigon Express, MT Karachi and Chemroad Journey with containers, furnace oil and palm oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
Three ships namely CV Sogon Express, MT Karachi and MT Chemroad Journey with containers, furnace oil and palm oil respectively due to arrive on Saturday at Port Qasim.
