Activity At Karachi and Qasim Ports

18/05/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 92,565 tonnes of cargo comprising 49,055 tonnes of import cargo and 43,510 tonnes of export cargo including 3,496 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 49,055 tonnes comprised of 19,610 tonnes of containerised cargo; 6,701 tonnes of general cargo; 11,244 tonnes of bulk cargo: 8,931 tonnes of coal; 2,313 tonnes of DAP and 11,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 43,510 tonnes comprised of 25,467 tonnes of containerised cargo; 40 tonnes of general cargo; 18,003 tonnes of bulk cargo: 3,483 tonnes of cement; 7,520 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 7,000 tonnes of talcum powder.

A total number of 3,496 containers include 1,362 import and 2,134 export containers were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The brake up of imported containers shows 478 of 20's and 408 of 40's of loaded while 10 of 20's and 29 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 414 of 20's and 355 of 40's loaded containers while and 262 of 20's 374 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

Four ships namely Hanjin Durban, UASC Shuwaikh, Chemway Arrow and Smart Sail with two container ships, one ethanol ship and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Five vessels viz Ital Moderna, APL Brisbane, Al Deerah, Alam Bakti and Winterset with two container ships, two oil tankers and one bulk cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

Two ships namely Abdulaziz Arab and Tycoon-II with two cement carriers sailed out to sea on Thursday, while two ships namely Ital Moderna and Canarise Princess with one container ship and one coal carrier respectively are expected to sail on Friday.

Four vessels viz Glen Canyon Bridge, Rio Blanco, Archagelos and Paris Trader with two container ships, one vehicles carrier and one general cargo ship respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while five vessels viz Kota Anggerik, YM North, CSL Ride, Chem Rigel and Chemroute Sky with three container ships, one ethanol ship and one palm oil tanker respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 94,179 tonnes, comprising 74,837 tonnes of import cargo and 19,342 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 1,676 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 74,837 tonnes includes 52,336 tonnes of diesel oil; 3,900 tonnes of palm oil; 2,850 tonnes of chemicals and 15,751 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo includes 19,342 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Two ships namely MT Pramesti and MT STX Knight sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely MT Al-Salam-II is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of five vessels namely CV Al-Abdali, MV Lullang Wisdom, MT Pramesti, MT STX Knight and MT Al-Salam-II are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, wheat, chemicals, palm oil and diesel oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as five ships CMA CGM Rossini, Hammonia Husum, MT Lahore, Hassandi and Nargas Napra with containers, furnace oil and chemicals respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of five vessels viz CV CMA CGM Rossini, CV Hammonia Husum, MV Hassandi, MV Nargas Napra and MT Lahore with containers, chemicals and furnace oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Thursday.

A container ship namely CV Sogon Express due to arrive on Thursday, while three more container ships namely CV Safmarine Ngami, CV MSC Saira-II and CV Asian Trader are due to arrive on Friday.
