13/04/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 66,879 tonnes of cargo comprising1 14,243 tonnes of import cargo and 52,636 tonnes of export cargo including 2,777 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 14,243 tonnes comprised of 8,412 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,763 tonnes of bulk cargo: 500 tonnes of palm kernel expeller; 3,348 tonnes of urea; 1,915 tonnes of rock phosphate and 68 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 52,636 tonnes comprised of 30,237 tonnes of containerised cargo; 40 tonnes of general cargo; 4,859 tonnes of bulk cargo: and 209 tonnes of cement; 4,650 tonnes of talcum powder and 17,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

Six ships namely Hanjin Durban, Zante, Marcampania, Chariot, Sea Merchant and Lodestar Genesis carrying two container ships, two general cargo ships, one cement carrier and one chemicals carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Four vessels viz APL Brisbane, Abtin-1, Cap Verde and Seagull-K with three container ships and one general cargo ship respectively are currently at the berths.

Four ships namely APL Brisbane, Abtin-1, Gourniati and Malaspine Castle carrying two container ships, one urea carrier and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely Cap Verde, Champion Pride and Chem World with one containers ship, one naphtha ship and one ethanol ship are expected to sail on Friday.

Three vessels viz Chem World, Tycoon-II and Ahoora with one ethanol ship, One cement carrier and units respectively are due to arrive on Thursday, while four vessels viz CSL Ride, APL Sharjah, YM North and Hellenic Horizon with three containers ships and one rock phosphate respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 38,097 tonnes, comprising 29,823 tonnes of import cargo and 8,274 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 963 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 29,823 tonnes includes 13,664 tonnes of furnace oil; 4,210 tonnes of chemicals; and 11,949 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo includes 8,274 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Two ships namely CV CMA CGM Wagner and MT Belsize Park with containers and chemicals respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday.

A total number of three vessels namely CV CMA CGM Wagner, MT Belsize Park and MT Omera Queen are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, chemicals and furnace oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as four ships namely Belgica, NYK Kai, Anette Kosan and Rapallo with containers, chemicals and canola seeds respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of two vessels viz CV Belgica and CV NYK Kai with two container ships respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Thursday.
