Biofuels Less Sustainable than Petrol: Think Tank

04/04/2012 (CRIENGLISH.com) - Many biofuels are less sustainable than the common petrol and diesel, according to a report published on Tuesday by the Dutch think tank CE Delft.

If you take into account the land use, CO2-emissions and artificial manure, the results of the biofuels are less sustainable than presumed, the study said.

According to the report, biofuels from soya oil and palm oil are the least sustainable.

Biofuels have been subject to discussion for a long time. Specialists in the field argue that if you take into account the indirect CO2-emissions that are caused by the reclamation of new soil , most biofuels emit more carbon dioxide than fossil diesel.

CE Delft indicates that biofuels from cooking oil is the best biologic alternative. In the Netherlands this is the most used of all biofuels.
