Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

16/02/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 77,420 tonnes of cargo comprising1 32,840 tonnes of import cargo and 44,580 tonnes of export cargo including 3,307 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 32,840 tonnes comprised of 13,471 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,526 tonnes of general cargo; 2,843 tonnes of bulk cargo: 2,356 tonnes of wheat; 487 tonnes of canola seeds and 14,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 44,580 tonnes comprised of 27,278 tonnes of containerised cargo; 759 tonnes of general cargo; 16,543 tonnes of bulk cargo: 12,164 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 4,379 tonnes of rice.

Four ships namely Hanjin Monaco, Violetta, Glen Canyon Bridge and Akakai with three container ships and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Four vessels viz Marcampania, Bravo, Wan Hai-602 and Maribel with three container ships and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.

A cement carrier namely Tabernacle Prince sailed out to sea on Wednesday, while three ships namely Bravo, Wan Hai-602 and Maribel with two container ships and one oil tanker respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.

Two vessels viz Shoko Maru and APL Brisbane with one ethanol ship and one container ship due to arrive on Wednesday, while six vessels viz YM Fuzhou, Emirates Yangtze, Falcon Express, Stolt Sealand, Grate Eternity and Xiang An Cheng with container ships, one naphtha ship, one chemicals carrier, one steel coils carrier and general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 75,201 tonnes, comprising 42,800 tonnes of import cargo and 32,401 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 3,378 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Wednesday.

The total import cargo of 42,800 tonnes includes 6,062 tonnes of fertiliser; 3,488 tonnes of chemicals and 32,800 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 32,401 tonnes includes 1,469 tonnes of cement and 30,932 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Three ships namely CV Sea Land Washington, CV Al-Noof and MT Golden Ambrosia with containers and chemicals sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning.

A total number of five CV Sea Land Washington, CV Al-Noof, MV Florida-II, MT Golden Ambrosia and MV STX Daisy are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, chemicals and urea respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as three ships namely Estia, Arrilah and Nicolie Maersk with chemicals, palm oil and containers respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A container vessel viz CV CMA CGM Chopan is expected to take berth at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Wednesday.

Two container ships namely CV Safmarine Ngami and CV NYK Kai are due to arrive on Wednesday.

As many as three vessels viz CV Alexander, MV Topaz-II and MT Ever Shining carrying containers, cement and coal are also expected to arrive at Port Qasim.
