Activity at Karachi and Qasim Ports

20/01/2012 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 122,836 tonnes of cargo comprising 81,777 tonnes of import cargo and 41,059 tonnes of export cargo including 3,192 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 81,777 tonnes comprised of 14,189 tonnes of containerised cargo; 3,742 tonnes of general cargo; 18,000 tonnes of bulk cargo and 45,846 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 41,059 tonnes comprised of 32,199 tonnes of containerised cargo; 832 tonnes of general cargo and 8,028 tonnes of bulk cargo.

Seven ships namely Shayan-1, Marcampania, CS Discovery, Lotus, Sino South, Abdul Latif-S and MT Lahore with three container ships, two general cargo ships, one cement carrier and one crude oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Three vessels viz APL Brisbane, SC Tianjin and Vine-2 carrying one container ship, one palm oil tanker and one cement carrier respectively are currently at the berths.

Three ships namely Kota Carum, SC Tianjin and Star Cosmo with one container ship, one palm oil tanker and one coal carrier respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while another container ship namely Vine-2 is expected to sail on Friday.

Five vessels viz YM Fuzhou, Positano, Jin Rong, Lodestar Genesis and Warnow Moon carrying three container ships, one chemical carrier and one steel coils carrier respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while seven vessels viz APL Sharjah, Al-Manakh, Kota Arif, Gennaro Ievoli, Southern Jaugar, Formosa Product and UBC Cyprus carrying three container ships, one molasses carrier, one chemical carrier, one naphtha ship and one cement carrier respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 55,246 tonnes, comprising 19,574 tonnes of import cargo and 35,672 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,204 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 19,574 tonnes includes 11,024 tonnes of edible oil and 8,550 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 35,672 tonnes includes 1,164 tonnes of rice; 1,182 tonnes of cement and 33,326 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Five ships namely Maersk Kingston, Deira, Gas Elixir, MT Chemroute Sun and An edible oil tanker MT Feng Hai-1 sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while two container ships namely CV CMA CGM Verdi and CV MSC Anafi are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of five vessels CV CMA CGM Verdi, CV MSC Anafi, MV Leopard-B, MV LA Paloma and Feng Hai-1 are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, rice and palm oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as ten ships namely MSC Jade, Nexo Maersk, Safmarine Nagami, New Delhi Express, Akaki, Fair Spirit, Pine Galaxy, Bunga Angsana, Siva Coral and Al-Salam-II with four container ships, two furnace oil tankers, two palm oil tankers, One LPG tanker and one diesel oil tanker are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of six vessels viz CV Nexo Maersk, CV Safmarine Nagami, CV New Delhi Express, MT Pine Galaxy, MT Siva Coral and MT Al-Salam-II carrying containers, palm oil, LPG and diesel oil are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal, FOTCO Terminal and SSGC Terminal respectively on Thursday.
