Activity At Karachi And Qasim Ports

30/12/2011 (Business Recorder) - The Karachi Port handled 96,198 tonnes of cargo comprising 81,678 tonnes of import cargo and 14,520 tonnes of export cargo including 2,381 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 81,678 tonnes comprised of 20,323 tonnes of containerised cargo; 2,588 tonne of general cargo; 18,757 tonnes of bulk cargo: 18,540 tonnes of coal; 217 tonnes of wheat and 40,010 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 14,520 tonnes comprised of 4,227 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,793 tonnes of bulk cargo: 748 tonnes of rice; 5,585 tonnes of cement; 3,460 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

Four ships namely STX Patraikos, Oriental Marguerite, Thien Quang 08 and Fujisan Maru with one container ship, one chemicals carrier, one seeds carrier and one cement carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

Seven vessels viz Glen Canyon Bridge, Emirates Wasl, Helsiki, Bengal Orchid, Safina-2, Fade-1 and Al-Shuwaikh with three container ships, one oil tanker, one general cargo ship and two bulk cargo ships respectively are currently at the berths.

Four ships namely Emirates Wasl, Bengal Orchid, Al-Shuwaikh and Fantastic with one container ship, one oil tanker, one general cargo ship and one coal carrier sailed out to sea on Thursday, while two ships namely Helsiki and Glen Canyon Bridge carrying two container ships respectively are expected to sail on Friday.

Four vessels viz APL Brisbane, YM Fuzhou, Navig 8 Loucas and Calveston carrying two container ships, one mogas carrier and one coal carrier respectively due to arrive on Thursday, while six vessels viz APL Chicago, YM Enhancer, Kota Anggerik, Violetta, Salis and Freedom carrying five container ships and one vehicles carrier respectively are due to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM
A cargo volume of 64,149 tonnes, comprising 42,393 tonnes of import cargo and 21,756 tonnes of export cargo inclusive 2,502 loaded & empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 42,393 tonnes includes 3,500 tonnes of palm oil; 6,231 tonnes of sunflower seeds; 437 tonnes of project cargo; 1,145 tonnes of bitumen; 294 tonnes of chemicals and 30,786 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo includes 21,756 tonnes of containerised cargo.

Two ships: general cargo carrier MV Pangani and edible oil vessel MT Chemroute Sky sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while three more ships namely CV CMA CGM Puccini, MV Asphalt Merchant and MV Voge Enterprise are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of six vessels CV MSC Sena, CV CMA CGM Puccini, MV Asphalt Merchant, MV Pangani, MV Voge Enterprise and MT Chemroute Sky are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, project cargo, sunflower seeds and palm oil respectively during last 24 hours.

As many as five ships namely Nacoline Maersk, Safmarine Nagami, Pearl Bulker, Kei and Al-Buhaira with containers, canola seeds, palm oil and furnace oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.

A total number of five vessels viz CV Safmarine Nagami, CV Nacoline Maersk, CV Dubai Express, MT Kei and MV Pearl Bulker carrying containers, palm oil and canola seeds are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Liquid Cargo Terminal and Grain & Fertiliser Terminal (FAP) respectively on Thursday.

One container ship namely CV MSC Anafi due to arrive on Thursday.
