11/11/2011 (UkrAgroConsult) - Indonesian Trade Minster Gita Wirjawan said on Wednesday that the country's exports may be down next year as the gloomy global economy has started to weaken the demand of Indonesia's products.

The minister said that the debt crisis in the United States and Europe would have started to impact the country's exports next year.

"For this year, I think the target of 200 billion U.S. dollars of exports can be achieved. But for the next year, it is difficult to sustain the target," he said.

Analysts, nevertheless, have predicted that the decline is not going to be significant as most of Indonesia's exports comprise basic needs of natural resources-based products and plantation products, such as coal, copper, palm oil, cocoa and rubber.

The crisis has weakened the demand of Indonesia's manufactured products.

Indonesia's exports account for 32 percent of the country's GDP. Indonesia's exports in Sept. increased by 46.3 percent to 17.819 billion U.S. dollars, the Statistic Bureau announced on Nov. 1.

The government has expected exports to grow to more than 200 billion U.S. dollars this year as the country's exports to developing countries rises, former deputy trade minister Mahendra Siregar has said.

Indonesia has diversified export destinations to emerging developing countries and reduced the proportion of shipment to developed nations that have been facing economic slowdown, the former deputy minister said.

Export growth has been the most contributive factor to the country's economic growth, it is followed by the growths of investment and consumption, according to the central bank.
