17/11/2011 (Jakarta Post) - The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), a multi-stakeholder organization that promotes sustainable practices in the palm oil industry, has appointed former agriculture minister Bungaran Saragih as its new advisor in Indonesia, after looking for the best candidate for almost a year.

RSPO secretary-general Darrel Webber said in a press release from Kuala Lumpur on Monday that as a renowned academic at the Bogor Institute of Agriculture with macro-level knowledge of the Indonesian palm oil sector, Saragih was well-positioned to support RSPO’s mission to promote sustainable palm oil in the world’s largest palm oil producing country.

“The Indonesian palm oil industry is an important part in realizing our mission to make sustainable palm oil the norm all over the world, and it is therefore crucial to have someone esteemed and respected within the sector to bolster this,” Webber said.
