Mill Adopts Integrated Waste Management
07/10/2011 (Borneo Post) - Inno Integrasi has announced the adoption of Inno Works by the Tingkayu Palm Oil Mill for the provision of an integrated waste management and bio-organic fertilizer plant.
According to the Inno Integrasi director Shen Lim, the Inno Works scheme provided palm oil plantations with the treatment of all organic waste from palm oil mills including empty fruit bunches, decanter cake, suspended solid sludge, boiler ash, and palm oil mill effluent in a controlled and sustainable manner.
The treated organic material is fortified with beneficial and natural microbial formulation and the product is a rich blend of pathogen-free bio-organic fertilizer for use by the surrounding plantations.
“The Inno Works incorporates AM0039, a large scale Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) methodology that provides for methane emission reduction from organic waste water and organic solid waste, using co-composting.
“With this large scale CDM methodology, the Inno-Works scheme aims to generate a significant volume of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) through a rigorous compliance and monitoring procedure,” he said adding that the scheme would also represent an important step in bringing the international carbon economy into the rural development of Malaysia.
Shen Lim said this integrated waste treatment and bio-organic fertilizer plant were designed to process solid waste and waste water from a 240, 000 tonnes of fresh fruits bunches (FFB) per annum palm oil mill.
The facility is targeted to produce approximately 17, 000 tonnes of bio-organic fertilizer and generate on average up to 60, 000 CERs annually.
“After going through an accelerated composting process, the material is further cured and enhanced with a unique natural microbial formula before being bagged and recycled back to the surrounding plantations,” he added.
He also added that the total processing time was 28 days, significantly lower than non-integrated windrow composting systems that could take up to 72 days.
The Inno-Works plant was developed through project financing facilities from Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad (MDV) which structured to cater for the unique financial requirements of the Inno Works scheme.
“As part of the Inno Works launch here, the Inno Integrasi and MDV signed a MoU to promote the adoption of Inno Works to the biotechnology industry.
“Inno Integrasi’s role is to promote the scheme for greater adoption and MDV would facilitate financing for those that qualify,” Shen said when met at the launching of Inno Works at Tingkayu Palm Oil Mill, yesterday.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, who was present to launch the ceremony, suggested that the parties related to the palm oil processing industry make a study on the use of palm trees as well as processing of fruit and the bunches.
Tun Mahathir said the construction and implementation of this plant and scheme were great investments and could provide good returns for this industry.
He also hoped that the palm oil industry in Sabah would keep growing as it could help to develop and generate income for our nation.
