02/08/2011  (Bernama) - Malaysian companies considering to participate in the upcoming three-day "Showcase Malaysia-Mumbai" exhibition beginning October 12 will benefit from the recent implementation of the Malaysia India Comprehensive Economic Agreement (MICECA) as well as India's high economic growth rate of 8.5 per cent.

Abu Bakar Koyakutty, Director, Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation for South Asia Region, said the implementation of the agreement, provided an attractive package for improved long-term linkages between Malaysian and Indian companies.

The Mumbai exhibition would serve as an ideal platform for Malaysian firms seeking deeper access to the increasingly prosperous Indian consumer market, he said in a statement today.

During the upcoming event, Malaysian companies would showcase quality products and services, automotive and automotive parts and components, lifestyle, palm oil, consumer electrical and electronic products, business services and oil and gas.

Abu Bakar said India's rising purchasing power had contributed to the rise in Malaysian exports to India.

"Between January and May 2011, Malaysia's total exports to India amounted to RM10.7 billion, an increase of 30.1 per cent, compared with RM8.2 billion exported in the same period last year," he added.
