19/07/2011 (Biofuels Digest) - In Brussels, the EU will proceed with investment in the biodiesel sector despite a series of leaked EU reports that indicated palm oil, soybeans and rapeseed based biodiesel had a bigger overall impact than conventional diesel on climate change due to the forests and wetlands being destroyed to grow replacement food.

The EU, whose biofuel target aims to raise the share of biofuel in road transport to around 10 percent by 2020, baulked at penalizing individual biofuel crops and are preparing a political compromise that will safeguard existing biodiesel investments.
