21/06/2011 (Ghana Broadcasting Corporation) - Workers of the Ghana Oil Palm Plantation (GOPDC) at Kwaye in the Eastern Region have organized a peaceful demonstration at Kwaye to draw government’s attention to what they call deplorable working conditions at their workplace.

The workers who presented the petition to the administrative manager of the company, Mr Augustine Owusu Sarpong, have declared a sit-down strike till their petitioned is given attention.

The Union has been holding negotiations with management on how to improve their conditions of service since January last year but nothing substantive has come out of it hence their decision to go on demonstration.

The workers complained about the working conditions of contract staff, lack of an ambulance and equipment for the company’s clinic.

They are also unhappy with the deplorable state of the only school building established by the company for the children of the staff.
