08/04/2011 (Live Trading News) - The Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) announced the launch of “The Oil Palm.” This new portal will share with the online community the truth about palm oil, its important role in a healthy planet and societal advancement.

“The Malaysian palm oil industry employs more than 570,000 people, more than 40 percent of which are small farmers. The industry is a leader in protecting the environment. Malaysia has set aside over 50 percent of its land for primary forest conservation and uses only 23 percent of land for agriculture. Yet these positive contributions to society often go unnoticed, or worse, denigrated by environmental NGOs. The Oil Palm website will help ensure their campaign of misinformation does not go unchallenged,” said Tan Sri Datuk Dr Yusof Basiron, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council.

The launch of The Oil Palm will help MPOC tell these stories and many more. MPOC hope that concerned citizens and leaders of business, media and government will use our new online portal to gain insight into the dynamic and unique nature of this industry, and its interrelationships with economic growth and the environment.

From healthy vegetable oils to high-yield energy efficient pellets, palm oil is integral to improving lives in Malaysia and throughout the developing world. Poverty alleviation, greenhouse gas emissions reductions, and land use improvement are all byproducts of palm oil. MPOC looks forward to establishing The Oil Palm as the central online resource featuring the benefits of palm oil in Malaysia and throughout the world.
